EMEA Lithuania
The European ME Alliance was previously invited
by the
Chair of the Lithuanian Parliamentary Commission for the Rights of People with Disabilities and the
EMEA Lithuania Member Association ‘Independent Living’
to present at the Lithuanian Conference
‘Personal assistance: in the UN convention, abroad and in Lithuania’,
in 21 June 2024. However, that offer was eventually rescinded [1].
Subsequently, the EMEA Lithuania Member Association ‘Independent Living’ invited EMEA to present at their Association’s International Conference, held on 11 November 2024.
EMEA has learned from the Independent Living Association the following -
“In the past years, the information about ME/CFS prepared by members of our Association was not allowed to be shown at
Lithuanian events national-wide, and therefore the Lithuanian public remains unaware of ME/CFS sufferers who urgently need
help due to the severe debilitating and disabling symptoms of the illness.
We have little possibility of raising awareness, and ME/CFS sufferers remain neglected and expected to fend for themselves,
often pushed into poverty with their basic needs for survival unmet, in violation of their human and disability rights under
UN Conventions.
However, if EMEA can support us in this matter, together we will try to encourage the Lithuanian authorities to
implement the 2020 EU Resolution on ME/CFS.”
