EMEA Lithuania

The European ME Alliance was invited by the EMEA Lithuania Member Association ‘Independent Living’ to present at the Lithuanian Conference ‘Personal assistance: in the UN convention, abroad and in Lithuania’, that took place on 21 June 2024.

We understand that, unfortunately, the Chairman of the Lithuanian Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities removed the EMEA presentation from the program.

Below is the video that was prepared by EMEA for the conference -

EMEA Lithuania Presentation 21.06.2024

EMEA has learned from the Independent Living Association the following -

“In the past years, the information about ME/CFS prepared by members of our Association was not allowed to be shown at Lithuanian events national wide, and therefore the Lithuanian public remains unaware of ME/CFS sufferers who urgently need help due to the severe debilitating and disabling symptoms of the illness.
We have little possibility of raising awareness, and ME/CFS sufferers remain neglected and expected to fend for themselves, often pushed into poverty with their basic needs for survival unmet, in violation of their human and disability rights under UN Conventions.
However, if EMEA can support us in this matter, together we will try to encourage the Lithuanian authorities to implement the 2020 EU resolution on ME/CFS.”

In response to this request by the ‘Independent Living’ Association, EMEA is sending a letter of support for a project they are submitting to gather information on the current situation of ME/CFS sufferers in Lithuanian which, if accepted for funding, will provide recommendations on how people from all walks of life can support ME/CFS sufferers and support efforts to engage with Lithuanian authorities about the implementation of the 2020 EU resolution on ME/CFS.

Within our advocacy to improve the lives of ME/CFS sufferers, EMEA will also share with decision-makers throughout Europe the video from WHO Europe supporting ME/CFS that was made to open the 16th Invest in ME Research International ME Conference 2024.
