Sad News - Sture Eriksson

It is with profound sadness that we learned of the passing of our colleague, friend, and fellow EMEA board member, Sture Eriksson from Sweden.

Sture was Associate Professor of Geriatrics at Umeå University and also a member of the European ME Research Group (EMERG), contributing as a researcher in his own right, and was Vice Chairman of Swedish patient group RME-Sverige. He was also Chairman of the Christian Democrats in the Church of Sweden in Luleå Diocese.
His steadfast commitment to advancing knowledge and understanding of ME will long be remembered.

A stalwart of EMEA, Sture was a key influence on the organisation's work, representing the Swedish EMEA member group, RME-Sverige. His calm demeanour, rational perspective, and critical thinking were hallmarks of his approach, instilling confidence in those with whom he worked.
These qualities, deeply rooted in research and personal experience, made him an invaluable voice within both EMEA and the wider ME community.

As part of EMERG, Sture was a regular participant in the annual International ME Conference Week events in the UK. He also frequently chaired events for RME-Sverige, bringing his characteristic thoughtfulness and expertise to these gatherings.

Although Sture’s name may not have been widely known outside Sweden, his impact within the ME research and patient advocacy community was profound. He exemplified the quiet, determined dedication of those who avoid the spotlight of social media and public acclaim to focus on meaningful progress.

To say that Sture’s insight and contributions will be sorely missed is an understatement.
His passing is a great loss to EMEA, RME-Sverige, and the wider ME community.

We have extended our condolences to his family during this difficult time.
