Detection of an Infectious Retrovirus,
XMRV, in Blood Cells of Patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Recently published research from the UK's Imperial College London (ICL)
regarding the XMRV link to ME/CFS was heavily publicised by the British media. This research cast doubts on the research,
published in Science magazine in October 2009, by the Whittemore-Peterson Institute (WPI), the
Cleveland Clinic and the National Cancer Institute in which 67% of 101
chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) patients tested positive for infection with xenobiotic murine retrovirus (XMRV), a gammaretrovirus
associated with a subset of prostate cancer.
